School Choice and what Senate candidate Jon Ossoff thinks about it

School choice is an issue I have heard about from parents all through our country. I don’t really have an opinion on the issue, but that is ok because it is not my job to have an opinion. I want to show you different viewpoints, as well as what Georgia Senate candidate Jon Ossoff thinks about it.

For those who support school choice, these are some of the primary reasons they feel it will impact their families.

-School choice allows parents to send their kids to school that best fits the needs of their child.
– It gives kids in lower income areas with schools that preform poorly, a chance for a better education.
-Not all, but many people believe the public education system is failing and feel charter and private schools are a good alternative.

Then there are those who make these points against school choice.

-Many feel that by putting money towards school vouchers, it would take away money from public schools that need the money.
-Private schools have the right to turn away students, even with a voucher.

There are more talking points on both side of the issue to be discussed.

I had not thought much about the issue of school choice until I spoke with parents, teachers, and administrators at an Atlanta event in January of 2019. It is really interesting to see why this is an issue that is important to so many people. Here is why some in the community of Atlanta think school choice will benefit their children.

Even when I traveled to the Democratic Primary debates in Ohio and Los Angeles, there were more democratic voters gathered to support school choice than there were for any individual candidate.

Right now there are two very hot senate runoff elections in Georgia. A race that may determine the balance of power in the Senate. I was able to ask Democratic candidate for Senate, Jon Ossoff a question and I chose to ask about about the issue of school choice. If you want skip straight to my question go to 5:45.

I hope you learned something new from my story and if you have anything to add or critique, please feel free to comment!

Hi Mr. Richards! I am so sorry I haven’t gotten back to you. I have been very busy in Georgia this week. I could not find your email. If you could send your email to me, I would be happy to set up a time!
