The loophole: a look into Biden’s gun reform executive order

I traveled to Little Rock, Arkansas to speak with people at a local gun show about the gun legislation that President Biden has put forward. People feel their 2nd amendment rights are being infringed upon. Guns are not the only products people are buying. Solid commodities such as gold and silver were also being sold as well. Many attendees and Americans in general worry the value of the dollar will drop , especially with the new 2 trillion dollar bill in Congress. As a lover of history I purchased a really neat 1881 Morgan silver dollar! Be sure to watch my interview with vendors and the head of the show to learn about silver and the controversial topic of guns.

So what is the new gun legislation that President Biden put forward? The legislation covers many things, but I’ll only go over a few. One thing that would change is the gun show loophole; a law that allows guns purchased at gun shows to not be registered. Even with the loophole there is more to it details are in the interview below.

Despite the name, the gun show Loophole is not really about gun shows. Basically, it allows private sellers to sell a fire arm without conducting a background check. A private transaction could be made at a gun show, but most gun show transactions are through licensed dealers or FFl (Federal Firearms License) dealers. Which are required to conduct back ground checks and register a weapon being sold.

A term commonly used is assault weapon, but what is an “assault weapon”? I believe “assault weapon” is a loosely used term. Sure an AR 15 can kill people, but so can a bolt action 22. can as well. I understand that an AR has a higher firing rate, but both can kill. Many I spoke with defined it as a fully automatic weapon. The thing is though even now you cannot purchase a fully automatic weapon without a special license. What about semi automatic guns? Semi auto weapons are different and that was discussed along with other things in the interview above. A point being made what would you use a semi auto weapon for? Here are a few points I have heard. Semi autos can be used for hunting, especially aggressive animals such as hogs, used as self defense so the victim does not have to keep reloading or chamber a bullet and more.

Another issue is magazine compacity, President Biden would like to limit the legal magazine compacity to 10. many gun owners take issue to that. Many hand guns have a higher magazine compacity than 10. I spoke with an ammunition dealer about this issue. Why would people need more than ten bullets, I mean that is enough… right? What I have heard is that having more then ten bullets per magazine is very helpful. If you have horrible aim or are defending yourself from more than one person.

I discussed another issue as well, silver. Be sure to check out my interview with Monte Camp who collects and sells silver as a hobby. It is a very interesting conversation that has become more common in recent years. An abundant amount Americans are worried about the value of the American dollar and feel investing in silver would give them security. Why not purchase gold instead of silver though? Gold is great, but think of gold as a savings account. When trading with a farmer giving him an ounce of gold is like giving him 15,000 dollars. If you were to give a farmer an ounce of silver it’s like giving around 30 dollars. Gold is great, but silver is best for every day trade. So if you do not trust paper money, silver maybe for you!

It seems many Americans are on edge, about both physical and financial security. As the debate on gun reform continues, we will continue to hear about “assault weapons”, the question is what laws will be put in place. I hope this story was informative. Be safe and have a great day!
