20 years later, America remembers 9/11

Today we remember the events of September 11th 2001. 20 years have passed and America has not forgotten that day. Many remember exactly where they were and what they were doing. The events of that day changed the world as we know it.

For the first half of my life I knew nothing about 9/11, I wasn’t even born until 2007. Until one day my friend gave me some books from the series “I Survived”. It’s a series about kids who survived historical disasters. It’s under the category historical fiction, but when I read the book on September 11th, it seemed completely fictional! Like out of a sci-fi/end of the world movie. Terrorists crashing jets into buildings is insane. So I asked my dad about it and he verified this really happened. I was shocked that people would do such a thing!

Innocent men, women and children murdered. Let us not forget those who ran into the towers, the pentagon and the sacrifice of those on flight 93. The 343 firefighters, 60 police officers and so many more who risked their lives for others.

Despite the fact it happened so many years ago, it still impacts the world we live in today.  We have been fighting the new war on terror for 2 decades. So many Americans have given their lives to defend us. 20 years later we haven’t for gotten the sacrifice of those who gave their lives on September 11, 2001 and we never will.

A special thank you to Fabrizio Bivona for sharing his story of being one of first responders rescuing people at Ground Zero. He gave me his book , “Gone But Not Forgotten”, along with a personal message inside . I would recommend his book to anyone, as it contains photos and stories of the day that will be always remembered.
